Man in court over knife assault
(about 7 hours later) | |
A man has been in court charged with a knife attack in west Belfast which left the victim needing nearly 200 stitches to his face and body.
James Valliday, 41, of Agincourt Avenue, south Belfast, denies causing grievous bodily harm to Ciaran McAreavey and using a knife.
Mr McAreavey was dragged from his girlfriend's home in the Turf Lodge area by two men and attacked.
Mr Valliday was remanded in custody until the end of the month.
A police constable told Belfast Magistrates Court that she believed she could connect Mr Valliday to the charge.
Replying to a defence solicitor, the officer confirmed that during police interviews Mr Valliday had totally denied any involvement in the offence.
She said the accused had asked for an ID parade to be held and this had yet to be arranged.
Mr McAreavey, 25, needed a blood transfusion after the attack at the house at Norglen Court on 23 March. |
