Fire crews were called to the house at 0312 BST and rescued three people, one of whom later died. Area fire commander Chris Kerr said crews faced a "harrowing scene" at the blaze at Camberwell Terrace.
A fourth person was found dead at the scene by search teams. Two other people had escaped from the house before the emergency services arrived. They arrived just four minutes after a 999 call was made at 0312 BST on Friday and rescued three people, one of whom died later.

"The two storey mid-terrace house with basement was well alight on all floors with thick, black smoke issuing from every doorway and window when the crews arrived," Mr Kerr said.
"One person was calling for help from the upper floors. Crews managed to rescue this person using extension ladders."
However, Mr Kerr said the conditions inside the house were "very difficult and punishing".
People living in homes close by were evacuated because of fears that the fire would spread.
