A two-year-old girl took a 999 call and helped paramedics treat her mother when she became too ill to speak.

Gabriella, whose surname is not being released, told the crew her mother's name and checked she was still awake as they drove to her home in Bournemouth.

The girl's mother, Carla, called 999 after an attack of a chronic respiratory illness, her breathing then became too difficult for her to speak.

Paramedics treated her at home and praised the response of her daughter.

'Brilliant little girl'

Karen Ford, a controller with Dorset Ambulance Service, said Gabriella stayed on the phone taking instructions for several minutes.

"She answered all my questions, despite being concerned that her mum was poorly.

"She achieved something remarkable for her age and we in the control room were really impressed."

When the ambulance crew arrived, Gabriella tried to open the door for them but was too little to manage it.

Ambulance technician Lisa White, who helped treat Gabriella's mother, said: "She is a brilliant little girl."
