Mall ramraiders steal jewellery

Thieves smashed their car through a shopping centre's front doors before escaping with a large amount of jewellery in Newtownabbey.

The four men stopped the vehicle outside the jewellers shop, Ernest Jones, in the Abbey Centre at about 2330 BST on Tuesday.

Three of them used sledgehammers to smash display cases and lift jewellery before making their escape.

The car was later found on fire at Bawnmore Grove in the town.

Detectives appealed for anyone who may have seen the red Ford Escort car to contact them.
