Dan Edge, 29, of Northamptonshire, and his Kenyan camerawoman, Susan Kurumba 27, were filming for Channel 4's Dispatches programme. The pair were arrested as they filmed outside a police station in the capital Nairobi and are being questioned by anti-terror officers. A Kenyan official said it appeared that both are to be held over the weekend to appear in court on Monday. A Channel 4 spokeswoman in London said the pair "have got all the relevant required filming permits... they have got everything they need to be working in the country". The company said it is also concerned that the British High Commission in Kenya has not yet been able to speak to the journalists. They were working on a story about the arrests of Islamists in Kenya, who had fled fighting between Ethiopian forces and Somali Islamists earlier this year. A Foreign Office spokesman said: "We are aware that a British national has been arrested in Kenya. "Consular assistance has been offered but we do not know if he has been officially charged. "British officials are in touch with Kenyan officials and are seeking consular access." |
