Selected bags of lettuce are being recalled from shops amid fears of salmonella contamination, the food watchdog has confirmed.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) said the affected packs of Florette 100% Lambs Lettuce had been on sale during the past few days.

Soleco UK Ltd, which produces the bags, is recalling all bags with the use-by dates of 19, 20 and 21 April.

Customers who have bought the lettuce are being advised to dispose of it.

A spokeswoman for the FSA said salmonella could cause diarrhoea and sickness.

She added: "People who have already bought any of the potentially affected products should throw them away and take the packaging to their retailer."
