Man and woman die in chalet fire

A man and woman have been killed in a fire at a wooden chalet at a Northumberland holiday park.

The bodies of William Rush and Beverley Thorpe were recovered from the Ferry Landing park between the villages of Ovingham and Ovington early on Sunday.

Police said they were keeping an open mind about the cause of the blaze.

Mr Rush, of North Shields, and Ms Thorpe, of Whitley Bay, were both 47. Post-mortem examinations are being carried out on Monday.

Police want to speak to anyone who has a chalet at the site.

Detective Chief Inspector Mick Paterson, of Northumbria Police said: "We are working with the fire service to establish the cause of the blaze and where it started.

"At this stage we are keeping an open mind about the cause."
