McGuinness call over 'UVF threat'
http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/rss/-/1/hi/northern_ireland/6558017.stm Version 0 of 1. Loyalist paramilitaries must say if republicans are under threat from them, Northern Ireland's deputy first minister in waiting has said. Sinn Fein's Martin McGuinness said republicans in the Londonderry and north Antrim areas were told by police they were on a list linked to the UVF. The UVF and Progressive Unionist Party, which advises it politically, must clarify the situation, he said. Mr McGuinness said that people were "fearful" for their safety. "I have to say that many of these people have no connection whatever to Sinn Fein," he said. "It is completely unacceptable that people's personal details have turned up in UVF hands and that numerous people are now frightened and disturbed by these revelations." Police have said a number of individuals are in the process of being provided with information as part of an investigation into terrorist crime. |
