A family "risked their lives" to try and save one of two people killed in a road accident near Newry on Saturday, a councillor has said. Police have released the names of the two people killed in a road accident near Newry on Saturday.
The crash, involving a motorcycle and a car, happened on the Old Warrenpoint Road shortly before 1300 BST. The crash happened on the Old Warrenpoint Road just before 1300 BST.
A 30-year-old male motorcyclist and a 46-year-old woman driving the car died. Motorcyclist Patrick Beauquis, who was 30, and from Dundalk, died at the scene while motorist Ludmila Zimarjova, 46, from Newry died in hospital.
SDLP councillor Karen McKevitt said a family who live near the scene pulled the woman from her car seconds before it went on fire. Meanwhile, a councillor has said a family who live near the scene "risked their lives" to try and save Ms Zimarjova.

The motorcyclist died at the scene of the crash and the woman in hospital.
Their names have not yet been released.
