The UK has enjoyed its hottest weekend of the year so far, with temperatures as high as 26C. | |
Forecasters said it reached 26C in Herstmonceux in East Sussex on Sunday - about 10 degrees above average. | |
But cloudy and sometimes rainy conditions in western areas meant temperatures there were lower. | |
After a warm Sunday night, forecasters expect temperatures to fall back during the week, particularly in the northern half of the UK. | |

The BBC Weather Centre reported a temperature of 26C in the Solent on Saturday, with Manchester reaching 24C. | |
London City Airport saw a high of 25C on Sunday, said BBC forecaster Peter Gibbs. | |
While he said the temperature was well above average, "to put it into context its fallen well behind the all-time April high of 29.4C". | |
He said the temperatures would continue to fall during the week, but it was still too early to tell how warm next weekend would be. | |
He said similar April temperatures to this weekend were seen in 2003, the year Europe sweltered in record summer temperatures. | |
