Version 0 of 1.

An 11-week-old foetus has been handed in to an east London hospital.

A spokesman for Scotland Yard said a woman handed the foetus, wrapped in a towel inside a carrier bag, to staff at Newham General Hospital, Plaistow.

The woman, described as being of Eastern European origin, told staff a friend had suffered a miscarriage and asked them to dispose of the foetus.

The woman left on Thursday evening before giving any details and the police were alerted.

Det Sgt James Guest said: ""Our sole concern is the welfare of the mother, who will be in need of urgent medical attention.

"We are asking her, or her friend who attended the hospital, to come forward."

Officers at Plaistow Police would like to hear from anyone with any information about the incident.
