Liberal Democrat leader Sir Menzies Campbell has been helping Nicol Stephen on the campaign trail.

He joined the Scottish party leader in Edinburgh on Friday and pledged an extra £271m for young people if the Lib Dems win power.

Under the plans, every child will be entitled to two weeks of outdoor activity and receive one hour of physical activity every day.

The men were joined by Siobhan Mathers, candidate for Edinburgh Central.

Cheaper access to council sports and leisure facilities and investment in new activities in the evening and at weekends are also at the heart of the party's plans for young people.

Nicol Stephen said: "It frustrates me when I walk past a school in the evening and see the gates locked and all the lights turned out.

"It gets worse when I turn the corner and see a group of young people bored and with nothing to do.

Nicol Stephen launched the party's manifesto earlier in the week"No wonder too many children fail to achieve their potential.

"That is why we will invest in new activities and facilities for our young people.

He added: "We will get Scotland's sports clubs working with schools to meet the new target.

"This is a major investment in the future of Scotland - our young people. Only the Liberal Democrats have the positive policies to really make a million young people in Scotland matter."
