Family targeted in arson attack

A man and his two young children have escaped injury in an arson attack in the Castlereagh area.

The man, his seven-year-old son and his daughter, 12, were awoken by a smoke alarm at their Clonduff estate home at about 0330 BST on Thursday.

The man was able to put out the fire before extensive damage was caused. The hall was smoke damaged.

Police believe flammable liquid was poured through the letterbox and set alight.

They have appealed for information about the attack.
