Morrisons' distribution depot in Tamworth is to close in the summer with the possible loss of 582 jobs.

The site is one of the supermarket's regional hubs for deliveries to South Wales and the South West.

It is being closed following a supply network review by the company which found there may be over capacity in the Midlands area.

DHL, which manages the depot and employs the staff, says trading is expected to end at the site in August.

The USDAW union which represents many of the workers at the site says it is seeking urgent discussions with the firm.

Morrisons says it hopes to sell the site as a going concern, retaining DHL as the operator.
