A Turkish plane on an internal flight has been hijacked, according to Turkish media reports and officials. A hijacker who seized a Turkish plane on an internal flight has given himself up to the authorities, officials say.
CNN-Turk TV said the plane had been flying from the predominantly Kurdish city of Diyarbakir in the south-east to Istanbul, but later landed in Ankara. The plane, with 178 people on board, including three babies, had been forced to land in Ankara.
Latest reports say that the hijacker has given himself up at Ankara airport. It had been flying from the mainly Kurdish city of Diyarbakir in south-eastern Turkey to Istanbul.
The plane, said to be carrying 175 people, belonged to a private company, Pegasus, its chief executive told AP. According to plane's operators, the Turkish hijacker had claimed to have explosives on board. The motives for the hijack are not yet clear.
