Bin Laden faces Iraq rebels call

A Sunni insurgent group in Iraq has called on Osama Bin Laden to exert more control over al-Qaeda members there.

Members of al-Qaeda in Iraq were killing insurgents from other groups which did not support their ideals, said the Islamic Army of Iraq.

In its statement, it called on al-Qaeda to review its behaviour in the country.

Correspondents say the Sunni group's statement underscores growing tensions between al-Qaeda and domestic Iraqi insurgent groups.

It coincides with rising anger among traditionally-minded Sunni tribal leaders, who blame al-Qaeda for indiscriminate killings.

The al-Qaeda-linked Islamic Army, which first emerged in 2004, is believed to be comprised mainly of former Baathists and military officers from the Saddam Hussein era.

It has abducted and murdered many hostages.

In December 2005, the group broadcast an internet video apparently showing a hostage being shot dead.
