Police have revealed a large group of schoolchildren may know who killed teenager Adam Regis.

During an appeal on the BBC Crimewatch programme Det Ch Insp Matthew Horn said a suspect's name has been circulated among youngsters in east London.

Adam, 15, from Plaistow, east London, was stabbed to death in an "unprovoked" attack in Beckton last month.

As part of the appeal for information his mother Kristina Caesar told how her son's death had destroyed her life.

In Monday's appeal Det Ch Insp Horn appealed for those children who think they know the name of the killer to speak to their teachers, school liaison officers or to call Crimewatch.

He said: "They are either witnesses or I believe they could be involved.

"Were they on their own or where they part of a larger group?

"I need that same name coming forward."

Adam, who was the nephew of Olympic sprinter John Regis, was stabbed in the chest when he was attacked at the junction of Boundary Road and Kingsland Road in Plaistow on 17 March.

In an interview for the programme Ms Caesar said her son would do anything for anyone and was always there to help her. Adam's girlfriend also appeared in the televised appeal.

Four men arrested over Adam's death are on bail.
