Boy in court over airgun killing

A 13-year-old boy has appeared in court charged with manslaughter after another boy was killed with an airgun pellet.

Mitchel Picken, 12, was shot in the eye with a pellet in Stockton Brook in Stoke-on-Trent on 17 August. He died two days later.

The charged boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, will return to court in Stoke-on-Trent next month.

A 45-year-old man who was quizzed about supplying an airgun to a youth is due to answer police bail on 30 September.

Mitchel, from Baddeley Green Lane in Baddeley Green, was a pupil at Holden Lane High School in Sneyd Green, a Port Vale fan, and a keen sports player.
