In New York, Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said Tehran was optimistic about the negotiations with the Europeans. Iranian negotiator Ali Larijani said positive conclusions had been reached at the talks in Berlin.
"Since there is an atmosphere of understanding between Iran and Europe, we can be optimistic on the results of the meeting," he was quoted as saying by Iranian state television. "It has been a long, constructive negotiation," he told reporters.

Wednesday's meeting was part of efforts to reach "a diplomatic solution to the dispute about the Iranian nuclear programme", Martin Jaeger, a spokesman for the German foreign ministry, told reporters.
