Coastguards are appealing for help after they found a kitesurfing rig in the sea off Port Talbot.

Two lifeboat crews joined a six hour search on Saturday evening but found nothing and no-one is reported missing.

However, three children reported seeing two kitesurfers in the area just before a heavy squall came through.

Swansea Coastguard said it was "very keen" to find the owner of the equipment to eliminate the chance anyone was at risk.

The rig was found by a yacht crew at 1800 BST on Saturday, following the squall.

RNLI lifeboats and coastguard teams from Mumbles and Port Talbot were called out and an extensive search was made of the shore and out to sea.

Expensive equipment

Coastguards said three children who had been in the area reported seeing two kitesurfers on yellow, and blue and white kites.

The equipment found is a turquoise and blue kite, with wires attached to a harness and control bar.

A local kitesurfer examined the equipment and said it appears to have been jettisoned. Helen Hutson, duty watch manager for Swansea Coastguard appealed for anyone with information to get in touch.

"It is an expensive set of equipment and we are very keen to identify the owner, so as to eliminate the possibility of someone being at risk," she said.
