Roy King, 45, from West Norwood, south London, was previously convicted of raping an 18-year-old man at knifepoint in Crystal Palace Park. During a trial he claimed the victim had consented to sex, but he was found guilty of rape and sexual assault. A judge at Croydon Crown Court ordered him to serve at least five and a half years before he is eligible for parole. King was also sentenced to three years for sexual assault and two years and two months for failing to notify police of a change in his sex offender status. Both sentences will run concurrently. Previous convictions King befriended the young man and offered him a place to stay after he missed his last train home, police said. He was arrested the next day and denied the allegations but was charged with rape and sexual assault and remanded in custody. Police said King had 11 previous convictions for 25 offences dating back to 1979 and had a history of failing to comply with the Sex Offenders Register. Nine of the offences were of a serious sexual nature and included serious sexual offences against children. |
