A dangerous sex offender who went missing from a West Yorkshire hostel while on licence from prison might have taken a train to London, police said.

Kelly James Edney, 26, was convicted of rape in 1998. He was reported missing from a hostel in Bradford on Monday.

West Yorkshire Police said a man believed to be Edney was seen on a train that left Leeds station for Kings Cross on Tuesday morning.

They said he may also be in Bristol or the Bridgwater area of Somerset.

Edney was said to be potentially dangerous and should not be approached by the public.

Bomb threats

Detectives searching for Edney said he may also be in the Bridgwater area of Somerset or in Bristol, where he has connections.

Edney was jailed for seven years in 1998 after being convicted of rape.

While serving his prison term at Dartmoor, he made a series of hoax bomb calls to the Samaritans, claiming he was going to blow up airports and train stations.

In 2004 he was jailed for four years after he admitted making 11 false threats. He also has convictions for arson, burglary and assault.

Number of tattoos

Edney is described as white, slim, 5ft 8in tall, with dark brown, collar-length wavy hair.

He has a number of tattoos including crosses on both his forearms and the letters KJE on his back.

When he went missing he was clean-shaven and wearing a long-sleeved blue sweatshirt with an Adidas logo on the front and three white stripes down the sides.

He was also wearing blue jeans and "very white" trainers, police said.
