Baggage delays cleared at airport
http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/rss/-/1/hi/england/sussex/6494535.stm Version 0 of 1. Gatwick Airport is getting back to normal after an electrical failure delayed thousands of passengers. A dip in power on Sunday morning caused one of the main baggage belts in the South Terminal to break, leaving travellers unable to check in luggage. Although repairs were completed by lunchtime, there were knock on effects throughout the day, with passengers experiencing delays of up to two hours. Easyjet had to cancel seven flights and offer overnight accommodation. The baggage belt system, used by most airlines broke down at about 0800 BST. Although it was fixed by midday, and check-in re-opened, the backlog was not cleared until late on Sunday night. The South Terminal acts as a base for airlines including Easyjet, Continental and Virgin. |
