A four-year-old boy has been killed during clashes between rival factions in the Gaza Strip, Palestinian officials say.

The child was caught in the crossfire when shooting broke out between supporters of Hamas and Fatah, in the northern town of Beit Lahiya, they say.

The killing came on the second consecutive day of sporadic clashes between the rival factions.

Six days ago, a unity government took office after months of negotiations.

Palestinian politicians had hoped the national unity agreement would end the tensions between the factions which had led to months deadly clashes.
