Youth held over ice rink killing

A teenager has been arrested by police investigating the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old at a south-west London ice rink. A boy, 16, from South Norwood, south London, was held by police on Thursday. James Andre Smartt-Ford, of New Malden, south-west London, was shot twice at Streatham Ice Arena on 3 February. Six youths and an 18-year-old man were arrested in connection with the shooting last month. They have all been released on police bail The shooting took place during a disco attended by up to 350 people. James was shot near the entrance to the venue at about 2300 GMT and later died in hospital. Earlier this month, his family visited the rink to repeat their calls for information about his death. The fatal shooting was one of three teenage gun deaths within a two-week period in south London. |
