Missing man's body found in river

The body of a young man who disappeared after a night out in Glasgow has been discovered in the River Clyde.

Iain Nicholson, 21, from Bearsden, had been missing since 2 February.

His body was recovered from the Clyde near to the Renfrew Ferry on the Broomielaw at about 1210 GMT on Sunday. A post-mortem examination will be held.

A police spokesman said: "Enquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances surrounding Mr Nicholson's death."

Mr Nicholson was last seen in Buchanan Street in the early hours after leaving his sister Fiona, 20, and friends in Karbon nightclub.

He was last seen, on CCTV, walking down Buchanan Street towards Argyle Street at about 0100 GMT on the Friday.

About 30 police officers investigated his disappearance and his picture was displayed on plasma screens throughout the city.

During an appeal for information, his mother Linda, 50, told the BBC Scotland news website his disappearance was a "living nightmare".

Mrs Nicholson described her son, a shop assistant and delivery driver, as a very friendly person, quite sociable and hard-working.

She said he was due to travel to Australia in April.
