A fire at a Northamptonshire family home in which a three-year-old boy died is being treated as suspicious. A three-year-old boy died in his home after a fire was started in a bin outside the house, police believe.
A man, a woman and two other children escaped from the blaze which broke out in the early hours at the house in Fulmer Lane, Wellingborough. Callum Bland was killed as the flames spread into the house in Fulmer Lane, Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, in the early hours.
They were taken to hospital suffering from the effects of breathing in smoke. His mother, her partner, and three other children, aged from five months to five years old, managed to escape.
They are all being treated at Kettering General Hospital for the effects of breathing in smoke.
Det Ch Insp John Jones said: "This was a tragic incident and I cannot imagine how the family are feeling.
"Our thoughts are with them at this sad time.
"At this stage it appears that the fire has been started in a wheelie bin at the front of the house and has then spread to the rest of the house."
A post-mortem examination to try to establish the cause of Callum's death, is due to be carried out by Home Office pathologist Dr Guy Rutty in Leicester later.
