Police are searching for an on-the-run prisoner jailed for an hammer attack which left his victim brain damaged.

Kevin Barry Moyna, also known by the surname Donegan, failed to return from parole to Maghaberry last Thursday.

The 22-year-old was jailed for eight years in February 2005 for grievous bodily harm after attacking a man as he slept at his south Belfast home.

The victim was left needing round-the-clock care following the robbery and assault in March 2003.

Moyna is described as being 5ft 5in, of medium build with brown hair and brown eyes.

His brother, Gerard Michael Donegan, was also found guilty of involvement in the attack and is currently serving a 15-year sentence for attempted murder.
