Version 0 of 1.

Police are searching for a woman driver who knocked down a 12-year-old boy, swore at him and then drove off.

Luke Andrews, from Neath, was left in the road with a broken elbow and back injuries.

The Citroen driver hit Luke head-on as he wheeled his bike across a road junction on his way home from school.

The boy's mother Gwenderline Andrews said the driver stopped only long enough to check her car for damage and give her son "a load of abuse".

She said: "I find it unbelievable. How can a woman behave like that and leave an injured child lying in the road?"

She didn't even ask Luke if he was all right - he most certainly was not and suffered a broken elbow Luke's mother Gwenderline Andrews

Luke was on his way home from Cefn Saeson Comprehensive in Neath when the incident happened on Afan Valley Road.

The driver turned into the side road and knocked him and his bike over the bonnet.

The collision, at about 1500 GMT on Wednesday, was witnessed by a man. Police said they were treating it as a hit-and-run.

Mrs Andrews added: "She didn't even ask Luke if he was all right. He most certainly was not and suffered a broken elbow.

"He could have been killed and she must have realised he was in pain and needed help.

"I would have thought that a woman would appreciate that children are more important than cars."

Det Insp Wayne Thomas appealed for witnesses to come forward.
