A Royal Navy officer training in Dorset suffered hypothermia after her life raft and dry suit started leaking.

The woman, 33, was taken to hospital by ambulance after spending an hour in the sea off Portland, said coastguards.

She was picked up by tourist boat My Girl and taken to the Portland Sailing Academy.

A Portland Coastguard spokesman said: "It was an exercise with the Navy. I understand both the life raft and survival dry suit were leaking."

The woman is now recuperating at home.

A Royal Navy spokesman said her condition was not serious and all correct safety procedures were followed.
