There has been a cash in transit robbery in Finaghy, south Belfast, the Police Service of Northern Ireland has said. Police have foiled an attempted armed robbery of a security van outside a bank in south Belfast.
Four men were arrested during the police operation, a spokesman said, and a cash box and knife were seized. Under-cover officers arrested four men in side streets after chasing the gang and ramming a car and a van.
The robbery happened at a branch of the Northern Bank at 1100 GMT. One person has been injured, but police do not believe his injuries are serious. The robbery happened at a branch of the Northern Bank in Finaghy at about 1100 GMT on Thursday.
Two cars were also being examined after being recovered. One person was injured, but police do not believe he was seriously hurt. The two vehicles which were rammed by the police car are also being examined.
Businessman John Bushell, who witnessed the arrests, said: "They dragged the occupants out, one of them was on his knees, at the drivers door and they held him up against the car.
"The other fella was dragged out of the car and put up against a wall. The police had machine guns trained on him."
