A 22-year-old Nottingham man arrested after a shooting at a music event at Loughborough University has been released on police bail.

A student, 21, who was employed as part of the security team at the gig, suffered wounds to the abdomen after being shot three times.

Six others were injured when a CS gas canister was discharged.

Police are urging anyone who was at the event to email or text with any information about the shooting.

'Tough stance'

The event, a live performance by US urban artists Pretty Ricky, was open to the public as well as university students.

The incident happened at about 0245 GMT on Sunday.

Police believe someone at the event might have photographs or video of the shooting or the gas canister spraying.

Det Insp Phil Taylor said: "Even the smallest piece of information could prove of vital importance to the investigation.

"The force takes an extremely tough stance on gun crime - quite simply it won't be tolerated.

"Thankfully these types of incidents are extremely rare in Leicestershire."

Officers said the Nottingham man was released on bail while inquiries continue.
