Jail remand prisoner found hanged

A prisoner has been found hanged in his cell just four days after he was sent to jail.

David Hall, 27, was found hanging in his cell at Hull Prison at 0200 GMT, the Prisons Service said. He was on remand over harassment charges.

Prison officers tried to resuscitate him at the scene but he was later pronounced dead.

A Prison Service spokeswoman said every death in custody was a tragedy and an investigation would be carried out.

She said: "Our sympathies are with the family and friends of Mr Hall at this time."
