A teenager is recovering in hospital after being shot in Merseyside.

The 17-year-old was hit in his left leg in what police believe was a random attack in Altcross Road, Croxteth, on Saturday afternoon.

The youngster was taken to Fazakerley Hospital in Aintree where his condition is described as comfortable.

The shooting happened near the Croxteth Sports Centre. Police are not linking the attack with any other incident and say there appears to be no motive.

Detective Inspector Lawrence Forrest of Merseyside Police said: "Crime scene investigators have carried out a search of the area and house to house inquiries are being carried out.

"We have also stepped up police patrols in the area and are appealing for anyone with information about the shooting to get in touch with us."
