Rock singer Courtney Love is being sued by a Californian drug rehabilitation centre over an alleged unpaid bill of $181,000 (£93,705).

The Beau Monde centre says it has repeatedly asked for the bill to be settled since Ms Love's stay in 2005.

The 42-year-old was ordered into a drug treatment programme by a court for probation violations.

Her lawyer said he expected the legal action "will be resolved to the satisfaction of all parties shortly".

The action, filed at Orange County Superior Court, alleges Ms Love paid $10,000 (£5,177) up front to the Beau Monde before entering the facility but failed to pay the remaining fees.

"Although demanded multiple times by plaintiff, orally and in writing, none of the balance stated has been paid," it says.

Ms Love, the widow of rock star Kurt Cobain, was sentenced to 180 days drug treatment for violating probation in three separate cases, including assault and battery and illegal possession of painkillers.

Her treatment was deemed a success by a judge, who cut the length of her probation period.
