A 16-year-old boy has been arrested by police in Merseyside in connection with the shooting of another teenager.

The victim, aged 16, suffered pellet injuries to his thigh and calf in what police said was a "targeted" attack in the Croxteth area.

Officers were called to the local sports centre on Thursday night.

Firearms officers executed a warrant in the Norris Green area on Friday morning and arrested a 16-year-old on suspicion of wounding.

He is being questioned by police, and an address is being searched.

A police spokeswoman said: "A 16-year-old male, from the Norris Green area, was injured during the shooting and received pellet injuries to his thigh and calf - his injuries are not life-threatening.

"It is believed that the shooting was targeted."
