Eight Afghan children found in the back of a lorry from Germany delivering bread to a US air base in Suffolk will be questioned by immigration officials.

The boys, aged between 11 and 16, were found by security guards at RAF Lakenheath on Thursday.

Ministry of Defence (MoD) police said the youngsters were thought to have stowed away on the lorry before it entered the UK.

An MoD spokesmen said they were not arrested and they were in good health.

"There's no suggestion that they knew the lorry would be going to a military base," said the spokesman.

"I think they were very surprised to find themselves surrounded by American security guards."
