Five has become the latest broadcaster to suspend its quiz shows using premium-rate phone services. A review of all phone-in programmes has been ordered by premium phone line regulator Icstis.
The channel said it had experienced problems with its daily Brainteaser programme, and was suspending that and its late-night show Quiz Call. The announcement came after Icstis met broadcasters following a series of problems with shows where viewers had been asked to ring in.
The watchdog for those services is meeting broadcasters to look at ways to end the recent controversy over TV phone-ins. The regulator also said it would consider introducing a quality mark for competitions which met it standards.
Icstis is discussing restoring viewers' confidence after a series of problems. Earlier Five suspended its quiz shows using premium-rate phone services after an audit revealed "problems".
