A man has been found guilty of taking part in the botched armed robbery in which Bradford policewoman Sharon Beshenivsky was shot dead.

Raza Ul Haq Aslam, 26, was convicted at Newcastle Crown Court of a single charge of robbery after a retrial.

He was cleared of the Pc's murder, manslaughter, other robbery charges and firearms offences at an earlier trial.

Ul Haq Aslam, of St Pancras Way, Kentish Town, London, was remanded in custody and will be sentenced later.

Pc Beshenivsky, 38, was shot on 18 November 2005 at the Universal Express travel agency in Bradford.

Five convicted

Her colleague, Pc Teresa Milburn, 37, was also shot but survived.

Following a lengthy trial at Newcastle Crown Court in December, the jury could not decide whether Ul Haq Aslam was guilty of the remaining charge of robbery and a retrial was ordered.

Sharon Beshenivsky had been a police officer for just nine months

The retrial heard that he had effectively acted as a look-out during the fatal raid on the travel agents.

Ul Haq Aslam was the fifth person to be convicted in connection with the robbery and Pc Beshenivsky's death.

Hassan Razzaq, 26, was jailed for 20 years last week after he was found guilty of manslaughter, robbery and firearms offences at a trial in Newcastle last year.

Hunt continues

Muzzaker Imtiaz Shah, 25, of no fixed address, and Yusuf Abdillh Jamma, 20, of Small Heath, Birmingham, were found guilty of murder and sentenced to life with a minimum term of 35 years in December.

Razzaq's younger brother Faisal, 25, also of Forest Gate, east London, was cleared of the officer's murder, but convicted of her manslaughter, robbery and firearms offences.

He was given a life sentence and told he must serve at least 11 years before being considered for parole.

Pc Beshenivsky was shot and killed as she arrived at the scene of the robbery on the day of her youngest daughter's fourth birthday.

She was the first woman police officer to be shot and killed on duty since Pc Yvonne Fletcher was gunned down outside the Libyan embassy in London in 1984.

West Yorkshire Police are still hunting two other men - Mustaf Jamma and Piran Ditta Khan - in connection with the robbery.
