Version 0 of 1.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8 has struck western Iran.

Local officials said 35 people had been injured in the town of Dorud in Lorestan province, and there was some damage to buildings.

The same area was hit by a stronger quake just under a year ago. Some 70 people were killed on that occasion and thousands made homeless.

Most of the injuries were caused by flying glass or when dazed victims were trampled in panicking crowds.

The quake happened at 2230 GMT, city governor Nasrollah Rashno said, quoted by the Irna news agency.

He said most of the casualties had minor wounds.

Iran is prone to frequent earthquakes - the worst in recent times being in December 2003 when a quarter of the population of the ancient city of Bam - about 25,000 people - were killed.
