Police probe after boy found dead

An investigation has been launched into the death of a three-year-old boy who was found dead at a house.

The body of Nazem Patel was found at the foot of a staircase at his home in Barrow, near Clitheroe, Lancashire, in the early hours of Monday.

The youngster was taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary, where he was pronounced dead.

Lancashire Constabulary have opened an investigation into the death which is being treated as "unexplained".

Paramedics were called to the house in Clitheroe Road and later took the boy to hospital at 0438 GMT.

A Home Office post-mortem examination carried out on Tuesday proved inconclusive and further tests are expected to take place later.

No-one has been arrested in connection with the inquiry.

A police spokeswoman said investigations were continuing.
