Engineers have completed the removal of all the derailed carriages from the crash site in Cumbria.

Two cranes, with lifting capacities of 1,000 tonnes and 800 tonnes, had been moving the carriages since Thursday. They have also left the site.

Network Rail is starting work to repair the damaged embankment. Tracks and overhead power cables will also need to be restored.

No decision as to when the line may reopen is expected for two days.

A woman died and 22 people were hurt when the Virgin London to Glasgow train derailed at Grayrigg near Kendal on 23 February.

An initial report has blamed a faulty set of points.
