The Belfast home of a murdered drug dealer has been sold by the Assets Recovery Agency for almost £250,000.

Paul Patrick Daly was shot dead in Belfast in May 2001.

The ARA claimed a major part of his income came from crime, including drug dealing in Belfast, Newry in County Down, and Antrim.

His home at Laurelgrove Dale was sold at auction for £240,000. Daly was shot up to 10 times as he pulled up in a car in front of a relative's house.

At the time, security sources said the police were investigating the possibility of IRA involvement in the killing and that it was drugs-related.

ARA Deputy Director Alan McQuillan said: "We have sold this property, and the money raised will now be recycled to help the fight against crime.

"This again shows that the Proceeds of Crime Act is working.

"We now look forward to seeing more and more cases being finalised in the High Court."

The property went for about £60,000 above the auction list price.

The victim, a father-of-four from south Belfast, was shot dead in Stephen Street in the city as he was with his partner and daughter, who was then aged 12.
