Man charged over police stabbing

A 42-year-old man has been charged with the attempted murder of a Merseyside police officer, criminal damage and breach of a restraining order.

Stephen Hoey, of Boundaries Walk, Huyton, was arrested in Huyton on Friday after an officer was stabbed in the head and neck.

The 48-year-old officer was taken to hospital for treatment.

Mr Hoey appeared at Knowsley Magistrates' Court on Saturday and was remanded in custody until 20 March.

No pleas were entered and there was no application for bail.

Me Hoey will next appear at Liverpool Crown Court.
