The assets of five men from the Birmingham area awaiting trial on terror charges have been frozen by the Bank of England.

The move, which was ordered by the Treasury, was carried out under the Terrorism Order 2006.

The men were arrested in a series of raids on homes and businesses on 31 January.

One of the men, Parviz Khan, 36, is accused of planning to kidnap and kill a British soldier.

Amjad Mahmood, 31, was charged with failing to disclose information.

Along with Mohammed Irfan, 30, Zahoor Iqbal, 29, and Hamid Elasmar, 43, the two are charged with two offences of supplying equipment for terrorism and funding terrorism abroad.

Under the order the men's finances are to be frozen and "no funds, economic resources or financial services are to be made available, directly or indirectly, to the individuals."
