Ambulance overturns on 999 call

An ambulance rapid-response car collided with a van and flipped onto its roof on its way to an emergency.

The driver of the Vauxhall Zafira then crawled out and treated a female pedestrian, who suffered head injuries and back pains in the accident.

The paramedic and van driver were also treated for minor injuries. Police are investigating how the woman was hurt.

Streatham High Road in Streatham, south-west London was closed in both directions after the accident.

The road was closed from about 1310 GMT while emergency services attended the scene.

The pedestrian, aged in her 30s, was taken to St George's Hospital in Tooting, where her injuries were described as serious by police.

Both drivers were taken to hospital where they were treated for minor injuries.

The London Ambulance Service paramedic had been on his way to West Norwood Station amid reports of a woman under a train.
