The death of a pensioner from severe head injuries in east Belfast is being treated as murder, detectives say. A pensioner who died from severe head injuries in east Belfast was beaten to death in his own home, detectives say.

Police had previously been treating the death as suspicious, but following a post-mortem examination they announced on Thursday that he had been murdered. A murder inquiry was launched on Thursday after a post-mortem examination concluded that the head injuries had caused Mr Stead's death.
Lead investigating officer Jeff Smyth appealed for the public's help. Police are yet to find a murder weapon and are asking the public for help.
