A couple have claimed that armed police surrounded their car and detained them after accusing them of taking part in a blackmail plot. Elizabeth and Robert Stewart, from Dundee, said that as Mr Stewart walked the dog in a Dundee park he picked up a bag he found. The bag had been left as a 'sting' by a unit from Tayside Police, involved in a plan to trap blackmailers. Tayside Police said it could not comment as enquiries were continuing. Mrs Stewart, 56, said she had not slept since the couple's arrest last Thursday. She said that while her husband walked their dog Buster she had waited in the car park. Mrs Stewart said the couple were surrounded by armed police and taken to separate police stations, before being held in jail. She was released from Cornton Vale on Wednesday and expects her husband to be freed later. |
