Version 0 of 1.

A 52-year-old lottery millionaire has appeared in Cardiff Crown Court accused of raping two school girls several years before his jackpot win.

David Dyas from Newbridge, south Wales, allegedly gave one girl £2, and promised another victim "nice things".

Martyn Kelly, prosecuting, said Mr Dyas worked as a mechanic when the alleged assaults took place.

Mr Dyas, who won "several million" in 1998, denies three charges of rape and five charges of indecent assault.

The jury was told that before the trial started even some members of his family did not know the scale of his win as he had requested no publicity.

I did have a large lottery win but I kept it very quiet. Not even most of my family members knew how much it was. Defendant David Dyas

He told the court: "I did have a large lottery win but I kept it very quiet.

"Not even most of my family members knew how much it was. Some of them went to very great lengths to find out just how much."

He denies the sex attacks on the two schoolgirls, up to seven years before winning the lottery jackpot.

Martyn Kelly, prosecuting, said one of the girls had taken 15 years to complain to police.

He said: "She was very scared but didn't tell anyone for a very long time.

She remembers him putting his hand over her mouth to stop her crying Martyn Kelly, prosecuting

"He abused her a number of times but matters became more serious when he took her to a local beauty spot where he raped her in bushes.

"A similar incident occurred in a house."

He said the defendant gave her £2 and told her: "This is our little secret."

Mr Kelly said: "She remembers him putting his hand over her mouth to stop her crying.

"He also called that girl a whore and made her walk home from where he had driven her."

The court heard that the complaints were made in 2005, seven years after Mr Dyas' jackpot win.

When questioned by police, Mr Dyas "denied absolutely" that anything sexual took place.

The trial continues.
