Police arrest 16 over gang attack

Sixteen people have been arrested after three Polish men were badly beaten in a "sustained and unprovoked" attack in a Hampshire town centre.

The violent assault happened late on Saturday night in the Malls shopping centre in Basingstoke.

A police spokesman said a large gang of teenage boys and girls "kicked and punched" the three victims for at least ten minutes.

Detectives are now questioning 16 young people over the attack.
